Ministry of Education has appointed a special committee to look into whether content affecting reconciliation or may cause social dissension are included in Sri Lanka’s school textbooks. Giving evidence before the parliament special select committee recently, a Muslim scholar Risvi Nizam revealed that some controversial Islam religious laws which are not even mentioned in the holy Kuran have been included in some school text books printed in 1981.

However the ministry of education says that there no such provocative laws stated in the said text books. Commissioner general of educational publications Jayanthe Wickramanayake says that they will scrutinize the Islam school text books and take prompt actions to correct any mistakes.
