MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in parliament today that giving a salary increment to estate workers is reasonable. Proposing an adjournment motion in parliament , he said that it is the responsibility of the government to fulfill their wish.
The low weight birth rate of the estate workers has exceeded 25 percent. He said that only 120 to 150 of them get selected annually to universities. Therefore, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the estate people have become destitute in education and in health.
Seconding the motion, parliamentarian M. Thilakaraj said that the government should take steps to meet the fair demands of the estate people. Expressing his views minister Lakshman Kiriella said that the government is taking steps to increase their salaries. He further said that the government has also accepted their demands.
