Six Sri Lankan athletes reach Asian Youth qualifying level
Six Youth Athletes reached qualifying standards of their respective events at the Selection Trials for the Asian Youth Athletics Championship 2023 recently held at Diyagama.
Anuhas Bandara from Dharmaloka College, Ambalangoda sprinted the Boys’ 100m in 11.37s whilst Braini Anujana from Kumarathunga Munidasa National School won the Girls’ 100m with a timing of 12.65 seconds.
Meanwhile Ayomaal Akalanka from Ambagamuwa Maha Vidyalaya recorded a timing of 52.87 seconds, while both Lesandu Arthavidu from D.S Senanayake College and Nilupul Pehesara from Vijitha Central College, Dickwella cleared the 2.00 meters qualifying standard in the high jump event. In the Boys’ Pole Vault event, Malindraratna Silva of Maris Stella College, Negombo cleared 4.65m to reach the entry standard.
The Asian Youth Athletics Championship 2023 will be held in Uzbekistan in April .
