Veteran Sri Lankan filmmaker Sumitra Peiris passed away

Veteran Sri Lankan filmmaker Sumitra Peiris passed away at the age of 88. She was the first qualified Sri Lankan woman filmmaker and was known as the Poetess of Sinhala Cinema. The Prime Minister made a special statement in the parliament today expressing his condolences on behalf of the government regarding the demise of this veteran artist. He recalled the great service of Mrs. Peiris that brought fame to the island.
