Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says that a programme is now underway to locally manufacture 40 percent of the pharmaceuticals needed for the country. At present, Sri Lanka is already producing 20 percent of the pharmaceutical requirements in the country. The government’s aim is to save a large amount of money by slashing the cost of the import of medicines. The Minister made these remarks at a ceremony held in Colombo yesterday to introduce three new varieties of pharmaceuticals to the local market. The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation manufactures these three new varieties.
