First Kumbal Perahara of the annual Esala festival will parade the streets today. After a lapse of three years, the general public will be able to watch the pageant this year. Police request devotees who come to watch the historic Asala Perahara of Kandy Shri Dalada Maligawa to adhere health safety protocols. Senior Superintendent of Kandy Police Chamil Krishantha Ratnayake requested the devotees to follow health guidelines issued by the Director General of Health Services. Along with a police force of 5,000 officers, Special Forces and tri-forces have been deployed in the perehara duty to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, the 5th Perahera of the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya will parade the streets today. The traditional Perahera starts from the Maha Devalaya and parade the streets and reach Valli Amma Devalaya to achieve traditional rituals. Meanwhile, the newly built Dutugemunu Maha Seya will be opened for the public for worship from today.
