The Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage says the prices in the local rice market have decreased as a result of price competition created by the Ministry against the private sector. Minister Aluthgamage made this comment on the program “Kanadiya”. The program combines all channels conducted by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation envisioned by the Director General of the state broadcaster Chandrapala Liyanege. Furthermore the Minister claimed rice was provided at reduced rates through cooperatives and Sathosa outlets and added that, a kilogram of Nadu rice is available at 96 rupees and Red or White kilo of kakulu rice is available at 93 rupees.
