US State secretary Mike Pompeo has arrived in the island
The U.S. Embassy in Colombo says US State secretary Mike Pompeo has arrived in the island short while ago. He is scheduled to meet President Gotabhaya Rajapakse tomorrow morning for talks on several bilateral issues.
US State secretary is visiting the island on invitation of Foreign Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. US State secretary’s visit is a part of the South Asia – Pacific tour.
The US State secretary will meet Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other higher officials as well during his short visit.
After Colombo, Pompeo will travel to Malé to reaffirm their close bilateral relationship and advance their partnership on issues ranging from regional maritime security to the fight against terrorism.
