Appeals Court begins hearing petition against Gotabaya’s citizenship

A three-judge bench of the Court of Appeal headed by Chairman Justice Yasantha Kodagoda commenced this morning considering the petition filed against recognizing former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a Sri Lankan citizen. The petition has been filed by two social activists Gamini Viyangoda and Professor Chandraguptha Thenuwara. The petitioners allege that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has obtained a passport and a National Identity Card claiming that he revoked his US citizenship.
