Over 400 bowsers deployed to distribute water to the drought-hit Northern Province

Governor of the Northern Province: Dr. Suren Raghavan says, around 450 bowsers have been deployed to distribute water, due to the severe drought affecting in the Northern Province.

He further states, should the dry spell intensify, water will be distributed by rail, upto Kankasanthurai.

It is reported, around 75,000 families in the Northern Province and over 50,000 families in the Eastern Province have been adversely affected due to the prevailing drought.

The situation has affected 18 districts across 8 provinces, whilst the Batticaloa district has been hit the worst, with 87,000 families affected.
